Hello Hello 2021!
December was a super fun month of wedding planning. Now that we’ve chosen most of our larger vendors, it’s time to get down to the nitty gritty (and I’m STOKED).
We’re still feeling v hopeful about the whole coronavirus situation, and we’re hoping with the arrival of the vaccine, that things will be a smidge more normal by September!
December.
December was a blast! I’m sad to leave this month behind, because that means that my FAVE part of wedding planning is officially over. I shall remember it fondly:
- Cake and Dessert Tasting (spoiler alert- my favorite bit)
- Start shoe shopping
- Dress Consultation!
Cake Tasting
I always knew this would be my favorite part of wedding planning…. I wasn’t wrong!
Since we are planning on a smaller cake and a large selection of desserts, we got to choose 4 cakes and 5 desserts to try. Add in a couple extra cookies and we’re at… a lot.
Due to the lovely pandemic, we drove to Sacramento and back in the same day to pick up our treats.
They were BEAUTIFULLY packed, and we drooled all the way home. As soon as we got home, we dug in.
Here’s what we tried:
- Cream Cheese Strawberry on Strawberry Cake
- Cream Cheese Blueberry on Lemon Cake
- Fleur de Sel Caramel on Chocolate Cake
- Elderflower Lemon on Vanilla Cake
- Lemon Meringue
- Cream Puffs
- Fruit Tart (raspberry)
- Lemon poppy shortbread
- Lavendar Shortbread
- Sprinkle Cookie
- White Chocolate Oat Cookie
Am I missing anything?
Our stomaches started hurting real quick, but it was WORTH IT.
We tasted over the course of 3 days, before deciding on:
- Cream Cheese Strawberry on Strawberry Cake
- Fleur de Sel Caramel on Chocolate Cupcakes
- Lemon Meringue
- Sprinkle Cookie
- White Chocolate Oat Cookie
- Lemon poppy shortbread
- And maybe a couple surprises 😉
Over the course of the next couple months, we’ll work with our incredible baker, Kellie of Palette Cakes, to design our custom cake! PLEASE do yourself a favor and follow this talented woman on Instagram @palettecakes.
Shoe Shopping
Earlier in the month, I had a nightmare. I dreamt that I forgot to buy shoes for my wedding, and my parents had to take me to a strip mall the morning of my wedding to pick out my shoes.
Almost immediately after, I sat down and ordered ~10 pairs from Nordstrom to get the ball rolling (I’m pretty determined to have shoes on my wedding day).
Not much to report YET, because they’re shipping now! I have received one pair and I loved them, so it will be fun to compare and contrast. Keep an eye out for the January blog for updates!
Dress Alterations Consultation
If you remember last month’s blog, I got my reception dress in the mail and it was… massive.
I was super thankful to have a consultation with my alterations gal because she made me feel SO much better. She was able to show me what the dresses will look like once they’re altered, and I fell back in love!
It was so fun trying them on again and having a little fashion show with the lovely Stephanie (fun fact, she sold me my ceremony gown!).
We talked through all of the changes that I want to make to the dresses, and I’m so so excited to see the final products!
Miscellaneous Thoughts
As January begins, I’m beginning to think through everything we need to accomplish in the next 9 months. Figuring everything out when Coronavirus is souring once again isn’t an easy task, but we’re hopeful that by September, things will be going back to normal (everyone cross your fingers and your toes!). This month we’ll be focusing on finalizing our honeymoon plans (we’re getting close!), starting to plan bachelor/ bachelorette parties, and designing our cake. It’s going to be a super fun, but busy month.
Stay tuned, and be sure to watch my Instagram to see various wedding updates during the month!
xoxo,
Hannah
